Understand the purpose of audio visual promos P1, M1, D1

Music Promo: Muse You Make me feel likes its Halloween

Video Link: MUSE - YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT'S HALLOWEEN [Official Music Video] - YouTube

The purpose of this music promo is to sell the music product in which the artist has created as well as being entertaining by providing the audience with visuals that go along with the song. It can also educate people as to what the type of music that is produced by the band allowing for them to gain a better understanding of them.

The target audience for this music video are fans of the horror genre of film as this music video features a large number of references to the genre as well as having their own horror elements to the video and also for fans of the band muse whose main genre of music is rock and sometimes techno. One generic convention of the music promo is that the video goes to the song allowing viewers to be engaged with what they are seeing. Another generic convention is the use of horror elements throughout the video which is meant to keep the viewer on the edge of the seat as to what will happen next or what has happened to the people within the video such as the reflection within the mirror moving on its own. This is appealing to the audience as it in trigs them as to what is going on and making them want to watch more and find out what is going to happen next within the narrative of muse.

With Muse's music video they do not so much as convey a message they rather convey a story within both the song and the video itself. This story is something that is shared throughout several other videos that are shared within the same album and there is no real message that is conveyed through the song just the story. This is evident through the song with many references to previous songs such as the stone heads of the band members being used as decoration or the mysterious figure who is from the first song of the album "Won't stand down". Another indication of the video being a part of Muse's story is the fact we continually see the masked hooded figures throughout the piece who are the face of the album. The audio-visual promo does not really compare with any of the others as each of them are conveying a message of some kind whereas the muse does not convey a message, they convey a narrative. Pro this would be appealing for the audience as seeing the story unfold through a variety of different shots and references to previous muse songs makes them want to see more of the story that has yet to been told. Con the fast-paced editing within the trailer makes it difficult to see and understand the references that are used throughout the trailer meaning it is difficult for viewers to enjoy these references.

Film Trailer: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Video Link: Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness | Official Trailer - YouTube

The purpose of this trailer is to sell the product to the audience in order to encourage them to watch the film that has been produced but also to entertain them by providing the audience with parts of what is in the film in order to entertain them. The trailer other purpose is to inform as to when the product is going to be available to watch.

The target audience for this film is for those who are interested within the genres of science fiction from the multiverse travel seen within the trailer as well as action through the fights scenes that are shown within the trailer. In regard to the generic conventions for science fiction there is a large amount of these elements such as futuristic technology and people with superhuman abilities. Such as Doctor Strange using his magic or the robots who are escorting him in the trial. For action the generic conventions can be seen as two opposing forces are going against one another like when Wanda was fighting Captain Marvel. This would interest the target audience as they would be interested by the different elements of science fiction and enjoy the fights scenes that are there as well.

The message that is being conveyed here is that a wrong does not make a right. Within the trailer the main focus is on doctor strange as he is travelling the multiverse and learning of its existence however there is also the parts with Wander referring to a mistake that she made doing a wrong and it not going the way she wanted. This meaning is not conveyed that well as Wander is not the main focus of the trailer however it is somewhat conveyed towards the ending of the trailer. This is similar to the Moon Knight trailer as both audio-visual promos were made by the same company and the message being conveyed in similar ways with Doctor Strange being a wrong doesn't make a right and Moon Knight being people can have problems. Pro a variety of shots are used in order to show the feeling in which Wanda is feeling with doctor strange being regarded a hero and herself the villain. Con the message is not clear until the end half of the trailer meaning that people will not understand this or see it if they are not carefully viewing the trailer.

TV programme Trailer: Moon Knight

Video Link: Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight | Official Trailer | Disney+ - YouTube

The purpose of this trailer is to sell the product to the audience and encourage them to use Disney's streaming service and watch the TV programme that has been produced. However, the other purpose of the trailer is to entertain people by providing them with parts of the tv programme that has been produced as well as inform the audience as to when the product is going to be released.

The target audience for this tv show is fans who are interested within science fiction but also for fans who are interested with shows that can explore mental health conditions and mystery that is surrounding it. In the regards to the generic codes and connections there is a large number of scenes where the main character Steven is experiencing troubles with his disorder and is finding more at play as strange events are now surrounding him. I.e., Steven finding himself surrounded by strange induvial in a place he does not recognize. In the regards for the science fiction there is a limited number of scenes which convey that it is science fiction but the most notable is at the end with the transformation into Moon Knight and him fighting the creature. This appeals to the audience as the sense of mystery is engaging to the audience and they want to see said mystery unfold as well as showing there is more to the mystery with the fight scenes within the trailer.

The message that is being conveyed here is people can have problems. This is evident throughout the trailer as Steven is coming to grasp with the events in which are surrounding him believing them to be all part of his disorder. This meaning is conveyed well as we see Steven as he is dealing with all the strange events that are happening around him and trying to make sense of it all but struggling to do so which is easily seen by the viewers. This audio-visual promo is similar to that of Doctor Strange as both trailers were made by the same company and are done in similar ways this being many sequences which mainly focus on the struggles. Although Moon Knight better conveys their message as it can been seen throughout the trailer whereas Doctor Strange message is more towards the end of the trailer. Pro there are several sequences used to show steven either in distress or mystery as he is discovering the events surrounding him.

Con the message can be lost through all the mystery elements of the trailer that are meant to interest the viewer as to the nature of the programme.

Game Trailer: Halo Infinite

Video Link: Halo Infinite | Multiplayer Reveal Trailer - A New Generation - YouTube

The purpose of this trailer is to sell the game to the target audience in order to encourage them to play the game upon its release. The trailers other purposes are to inform the target audience as to when the product is going to be released as well as entertain the target audience by providing them footage of the current state of the game.

The target audience for this game is for those who are interested with science fiction as well those who are interested with first person fighting games as well as science fiction. In regard to the generic conventions for action a majority of the trailer is made of action sequences that are created from the game itself as a means to communicate to the viewer that they could do something like that in the game. For the science fiction aspects there is a large amount of futuristic technology that is used within the gameplay suggesting to the audience that they are able to use this technology within the game like the vehicles that are ever present. This would be appealing to audiences as it would interest them with the large amounts of action that is taking place along with the large amount of futuristic technology that they themselves would want to use and play with.

The message that is being conveyed here is play how you want too as well as inclusion. This is shown through a Varity of different shots of different game play from the game from a Varity of different players playing how they chose. This is effective at getting the message as it uses a range of different action sequences showing different means in which people can play and the multiple different tools that are at their disposal. In regard to the aspect of inclusion there is multiple different players who each have their own unique styles which is reflected within the trailer. In the comparison it is similar to the BBC ident in regard to inclusion as they use different colours and people in order show this inclusion as well as be interesting for the viewer. Pro there is a variety of shots at different angles showing off all the different ways in which people have chosen to customise their characters to show inclusions. Con due to the large amount of battle sequences it is difficult to understand the message as viewers may lose interest and focus on the action sequences that are taking place.

Animation trailer: The dragon prince

Video Link: The Dragon Prince | Official Trailer [HD] | Netflix - YouTube

The purpose of this trailer is to sell the animation to the target audience and encourage them to use the Netflix streaming service in order to watch it. The trailers other purposes are to inform the target audience when the animation is going to be available for watch as well as entertain by providing the target audience with scenes from the show.

The target audience for this animation are for those who are interested with the concept of fantasy as well as being for all ages with its rating whilst still being interesting for all these ages with action. With typical conventions for fantasy, they are several elements shown throughout the trailer which are typical of the genre such as the elven people, the human warriors in metal amour as well as the dragon. In regard to action there are several conflicts that take place within the trailer in order to grab the attention of the viewer. This is appealing to the viewer as they would be interested in seeing such sights of fantasy and the different aspects within the animation as well as conflicts occurring between these different factions creating anticipation leaving them eager to watch the animation.

The message that is being conveyed here is not to judge a book by its cover. This can be seen at the initial stages of the trailer as there is conflict between both humans and elves however upon discovering the egg, they set aside their differences and agreed to work together in order to prevent war. This is effective at getting the message across as it shows that even the worst of enemies who hate one another are able to come together in order to serve the greater good and do right. In regard to similarity, it is similar to the moon knight trailer where action is used within the trailer as a means to interest the reader and help get the point across as conflict is a difficult hardship to overcome. Pro this is shown at the end with the sequences is used in order to show how sworn enemies are now working together for a common goal. Con the use of many different action sequences showing off what the show has to offer can make the message difficult to understand.

TV ident: BBC one ident

Video Link: (9) BBC One ident 'Capes' Transparent (2009 edit) (SD) - YouTube

Here the purpose of the ident is meant to inform the audience as to what channel in which they are watching which in this case is the BBC as well as educating about the channel and what programme is next for viewing and what programmes will be on later.

The target audience for this tv ident is for the general audience that are watching the channel at the time as a means to interest them in the channel and provide them with general information. In regard to appeal there are no special effects that are used however the most predominant areas used in order to gain appeal are sounds and camera. A variety of different camera angles are used of the riders that are on their bikes in order to gain interest by the watcher as the register a large number of colours that are being used within the ident. These camera shots are accompanied by a song that is used to set a good mood for the piece interesting the watcher.

With this TV ident the message that they are conveying is that they are inclusive and expect others. This is evident in the fact that they are using several colours to represent their inclusiveness as multiple colours are commonly represented with as inclusive. This is somewhat effective at getting the message across as the colours can be used to imply inclusion, but it could also be used to grab the attention of the viewer just through the use of bright colours as well as different camera shots of these bikers. This can slightly compare to the Halo Infinite trailer as within that trailer there are several different looking characters within it. This could be used to convey that the game is inclusive and that the players are able to look however they chose to like send similar messaging as the ident with being inclusive through the use of different colours. Pro through the use of different camera angles as well as fast paced editing that are used, they are able to affectively convey their message by showing off the multiple different colours that are used within the ident. Con the last part of the ident is an overhead shot of the colours circling which can lose the interest of the reader just seeing the colours going round on circles.

Most effective

I believe the most effective audio-visual promo for conveying their message is Moon Knight. This is because the Trailer is showing as an average person who is trying to just live their life is experiencing a mental health problem and is trying to make sense of the strange and dangerous events that are occurring around him. Throughout the trailer he is shown to be in distress and is struggling with his mental disorder with little things making sense to him with the fast-paced editing towards the end of the trailer showing him within different situations with him not knowing how he got there or what has happened. This can also be seen throughout a variety of different shots to show the fear that he is in as he does not understand the situations and is trying but struggling to understand them such as mid shots and close ups of the character. This is good for conveying its message as many people tend to struggle with mental disabilities and with this character it is able to provide someone in who they can relate to perhaps not with the same disorder but rather as someone who suffers with these problems. Hence why I believe Moon Knight is the most effective audio-visual promo for conveying their message that some people have problems in which they deal with and that they are not alone in their struggle.
